The Rolling Stones – Blue & Lonesome Review

Blue & Lonesome ReviewThe Rolling Stones have gone back to their roots, their deep bluesy roots.

When the Stones broke through more than five decades ago, they were a bluesy outfit inspired by legendary bluesmen.  They were fond of playing early hits from Willie Dixon, Jimmy Reed and Howlin’ Wolf, and actually featured covers from those artists on their debut album, The Rolling Stones.

Rolling Stones Return to Citrus Bowl

Sadly, The Rolling Stones declined our offer to cover their historic show at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl last week, so we have no first hand review or information to share, but we do have some interesting information from the venue’s PR team…

Make sure you Like RARAsFarm’s Facebook Page and Follow us on Twitter for rock music coverage.

Normally, we wouldn’t really cover a show we did not attend, but this is The Stones, and with 50 years of touring under their belt, we can forgive them for not realizing just how special our website is. 🙂

So here’s the press release, and it really does have some cool little tidbits – give it a read:

ORLANDO, FLORIDA [June 17, 2015] – Last Friday, legendary rock ‘n’ roll band, The Rolling Stones, delivered a performance of epic proportions to a sold out crowd at the Orlando Citrus Bowl, a venue they last played in 1997. As soon as the band hit the stage, fans were entranced with a Rolling Stones state-of-mind and never looked back.

The ZIP CODE Tour marked the inaugural concert in the newly reconstructed stadium that reopened in November 2014. Prior to playing Orlando in 1997 during their Bridges to Babylon Tour, the band had two shows in October 1981 during Rock Superbowl XII. Performing almost 20 years later, The Stones’ showmanship was still an unrivaled, stunning display of stamina and musical prowess.

“The ‘World’s Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band,’ the Stones simply would not have returned to Orlando – their only stop in Florida – on their 15-city ZIP CODE Tour unless there was a suitable venue to host them,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “I’m proud to say our modernized stadium has become the draw we knew it had the potential to be. These events are amazing to experience and when they take place in our state-of-the-art venues, it increasingly elevates our city’s status as a truly top-tier destination. The sizable economic impact on the local economy continues to drive our city forward.”

“There’s no better band to play the Orlando Citrus Bowl’s inaugural concert than The Rolling Stones,” said Allen Johnson, executive director of Orlando Venues. “This is exactly the type of milestone programming we envisioned for the stadium. Through our partnership with AEG Live and Concerts West, we were able to stage the biggest concert to play Orlando in well over a decade.”

“We knew Orlando was long overdue for a Rolling Stones show. That fact, along with a new stadium, warm weather climate and convenient location right in the middle of Florida, made our decision to bring the tour here easy,” said Doug Clouse, AEG Live senior vice president of touring. “Everything came together naturally and we’re thrilled the fans got to be a part of history.”

The capacity crowd helped the stadium gross over $1 million in total concessions sales, setting a new record besting the inaugural Orlando City Soccer MLS game vs New York City FC ($736,453 – March 8, 2015). Sales included, 6,600 food items, 8,100 soft drinks, 11,910 bottles of water and 50,500 beers and alcoholic drinks.

Orlando and Florida Rolling Stones fans got more than just satisfaction; this one was made for the history books. Thanks for the memories, Mick, Keith, Ronnie & Charlie.

As we leap into June, and the dog days of summer, I took a look at the best live acts on the road today. There were many killer rock acts to choose from, including a few bands we have not previously seen, but we decided to limit the list to a dozen acts that we can personally vouch for as guaranteed to deliver a great rock ‘n roll music experience.

Here you go – twelve bands from very different rock music genres, but all twelve linked together as the top dozen live rock artists touring this summer; a dozen bands who put on a fantastic show every time they hit the stage.

I list them here in alphabetical order, but every one of these acts delivers a killer show every night, and they are all absolutely worth seeing.

Foo Fighters Dave Grohl is one of the most dynamic front men around, and he’s got one hell of a catalogue of songs to play. The Foo Fighters are playing a bunch of stadiums on this tour, but I’d recommend one of their more intimate arena stops if you can swing it Tour Dates  |
Frank Turner He just might be the best storyteller gracing the rock ‘n roll landscape today.  Every show is a diverse, eclectic collection of wonderful songs from the punk rock icon turned rock ‘n roll troubadour.  (Read our review) Tour Dates | Review

Rolling Stones Zip Code Tour Info

The revitalized Citrus Bowl is about to welcome the most legendary rock band on the planet back to it’s hallowed stage.

Make sure you Like RARAsFarm’s Facebook Page and Follow us on Twitter for rock music coverage.

The rejuvenated Rolling Stones will tumble into Orlando on one of their 15 tour stops during their North American ZIP CODE Tour this summer.  Having Orlando selected as one of the 15 sites is a major coup for the city and a rare treat for Central Florida classic rock fans.

The June 12th show will be only their third in the city, and the first visit since 1999’s Bridges to Babylon Tour – an 18 year absence.  Their only other visit was their infamous 1981 Tattoo You Tour, where I saw them for the first time… one hell of a show, and I expect we’ll be in store for another fantastic experience.

The band we will see this time is as legendary as you’ll find. Mick Jagger will be prancing around the stage joined by longtime band mates Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood – Rock ‘n Roll royalty!

Full dates are provided below the press release from the City of Orlando.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA [March 31, 2015] – Ladies and gentlemen…The Rolling Stones are back! The band has announced that they will kick off their new 15-city North American ZIP CODE tour in San Diego on May 24 at Petco Park. The band will visit the Orlando Citrus Bowl on Friday, June 12, 2015. The tour will make stops in Columbus, Minneapolis, Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Detroit and Buffalo before wrapping in Quebec on July 15 at Le Festival D’Été de Québec.

Tickets and VIP packages for the Orlando date go on sale Monday, April 13 at 10 a.m. local time. For ticketing information please visit RollingStones.com.

American Express® Card Members may purchase tickets before the general public beginning Wednesday, April 8 at 10 a.m. local time through Sunday, April 12 at 10 p.m. local time for select markets.

“We are excited to be back in North America playing stadiums this summer! We are looking forward to being back on stage and playing your favorite songs,” Mick Jagger.

“We love being out on the road and it is great to come back to North America! I can’t wait to get back on the stage!” Keith Richards.

The Rolling Stones ZIP CODE tour will see Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood head back out on the road after their critically-acclaimed 14 On Fire tour in Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand in 2014. The iconic band will treat their generations of fans to special, one night only shows, with a set packed full of classic Stones hits, such as “Gimme Shelter,” “Paint It Black,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Tumbling Dice” and “It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll,” as well as special gems from their extraordinary catalog. The Rolling Stones ZIP CODE tour will be the first time the rock legends have played North American stadiums since 2005-2007’s, “A Bigger Bang Tour.”

The stage design for the stadium shows includes a thrust that extends deep into the audience allowing the Stones to interact directly with their fans. Known for their ground-breaking sets and use of cutting-edge technology, the Stones’ set design will feature video screens and special effects that will enhance the high-octane experience of attending a live Stones’ show.

AEG Live’s Concerts West is the promoter of The Rolling Stones ZIP CODE tour. The tour will also coincide with the Rolling Stones re-release of “Sticky Fingers” on May 26 by Universal Music. “Sticky Fingers,” one of the most revered albums from the Rolling Stones, is set to enthrall a new generation of fans in 2015. The 1971 classic features timeless tracks such as ‘Brown Sugar,’ ‘Wild Horses,’ ‘Bitch’ and ‘Dead Flowers.’ “Sticky Fingers 2015,” with its iconic zip cover, will be unveiled in a variety of formats. The deluxe editions include a generous selection of previously unreleased Stones studio outtakes from the “Sticky Fingers” sessions and stunning live performances from that time. These sought after tracks have never been available until this release.

Recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Olympic Studios in London, and produced by regular confidant Jimmy Miller, “Sticky Fingers” was released just before the Stones became tax exiles in the south of France, leaving Britain after a sensational farewell tour. It also featured some of the most groundbreaking design in rock history, with its famous working zip on the front cover and artwork by Andy Warhol.
