Conor Oberst Brings Expansive Repertoire and Emotional Authenticity to Ponte Vedra Concert Hall
Review by: Liz Pena, photos: Jennifer Hyams
At 37 years old, Conor Oberst has now been writing and releasing music for over half his life. Despite enduring both musical and personal changes, he has continued to steadily release music with different projects including Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, his own solo releases, and other groupings of his ever evolving lineup. Oberst’s 2017 tour follows the release of his latest record Salutations as well as 2016 release Ruminations. With so much new music released since his last appearance in North Florida, Conor Oberst’s October 17 show at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall was a highly anticipated event.
Veil of Maya/ The Devil Wears Prada on Friday the 13th
There are many old superstitions regarding Friday the 13th, dating back to the story of Genesis, when Adam and Eve were ejected from the garden of Eden on a Friday, to the thirteen present at the last supper, and the fact that a pope ordered the killing of all of the Knights Templar on the cursed date. But it is perhaps the possibility that most of my life is already a series of unfortunate events that exclude me from most other people in that the day always seems to bring me good luck.
A Day To Remember’s Self Help Festival made its first trip to Orlando when they took over the Central Florida Fairgrounds last week. Our intrepid photographer Ben Costa spent some quality time in the pit, as you can see below. Enjoy the photos!
Self Help Fest Helps the masses in different ways!
One day after the Self-Help Festival and I was in recovery mode. Yes, there was so much excitement over the thirteen bands that played, I was completely depleted of energy. I was storing energy before this event but I feel like I didn’t adequately assume how much I would need.
I went down to the wonderful Orpheum Theater in beautiful Ybor City, Tampa, I really do think that the Orpheum is one of the best venues in all of Tampa. I generally get there a little early, but not too early, because I don’t like waiting, but I like to see the opening acts.
How can I philosophically and soundly tell you how great the show at The Social in downtown Orlando was on September 23rd? The high punk energy of the bands could give a person one clue about this lineup and let me tell you, I was loving every minute of it and so was the crowd from start to finish.
I realize I am little late here… But the sheer awesomeness of the Melvins made me do it…
I finally got to see the Melvins live… Yup…. I did it… and it was glorious… And… it was in the intimate setting of The Orpheum in Ybor City, Tampa, which has quickly become one of my favorite venues around town.
