Coral Skies Festival Hits Florida This Weekend

Coral Skies Festival

Last year, we were treated to a very similar Alt-Rock festival in the Sunshine State, at the time known as The Coastline Festival, and it was a can’t miss event. This weekend, we get a chance to catch the 2014 incarnation.

Make sure you Like our Facebook at the top of our site for more rock music coverage.

It was a fantastic event, featuring great alternative rock, killer food trucks and an excellent beer garden.  Check out our review here: Coastline Festival 2013

Sadly, we’re tied up on the East Coast this weekend, so we’ll miss the festivities, nut if you are anywhere near Tampa or West Palm Beach, you need to make sure you attend this, and it won’t break the bank with tickets as low as $30.00.

The 2014 Line-Up Highlights

Good Graeff (Sunrise Stage, noon)
Wild Cub (Sunrise Stage, 1:55)
Bombay Bicycle Club ( Scion Stage, 2:35)

Noel Gallagher Announces New Album Details

Noel Gallagher Shares Details on Chasing Yesterday

Make sure you Like our Facebook at the top of our site for more rock music coverage.

Today, October 13th, Noel Gallagher announced the completion and release date of the brand new Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds album, Chasing Yesterday. The announcement was made during a live Q&A streamed on Facebook and hosted by BBC 6 Music’s Matt Everitt.  Chasing Yesterday will be released on March 3rd.

The first single from the album, ‘In The Heat Of The Moment’ will be released on November 17th digitally and on limited edition 7 inch vinyl with B side entitled ‘Do The Damage.’ Today, you can catch a video version below.

From the press release:

Chasing Yesterday marks a new chapter and sound for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. It’s the first album to be produced as well as written by Noel and features a much broader array of instrumentation than ever before; the result is a rich, expansive and multi-layered record, drawing from a range of disparate influences – from west coast rock to classic rock’n’roll and even some space jazz (!) – whilst still being very obviously a completely cohesive body of work. On producing the album, Noel said:

“It was a major pain in the arse. It’s not that I’ve ever had people telling me what to write or what direction to go in, but managing sessions from one end of the week to the other proved extremely difficult. I had all these people looking at me and saying: ‘right, what are we doing today?’ I was making the whole thing up as I went along.”

The first single to be taken from the album will be, ‘In The Heat Of The Moment.’ This hypnotic track was inspired by a documentary in which an astronaut said that going into space for the first time feels like touching the face of God. “If that’s not an opening line for a song I don’t know what is” said Mr Gallagher.

The beautiful opening track ‘Riverman’ is an expansive song with several guitar and saxophone solos. Noel said of the track:

“We made a demo of Riverman and we knew it was amazing,” “And then I was listening to [sax-laden one-hit wonder from 1974] Pinball by Brian Protheroe and thought: Shall I actually get a saxophone player? And what if I get him to play not one but two solos? I know I’m going to be accused of sax crimes. But fuck it. There’s nobody to tell me not to do it. And when you listen to that saxophone, please, don’t think about the guy from Spandau Ballet.”

The record’s emotional closer, ‘Ballad Of The Mighty I’ sees Johnny Marr join with Noel on guitar duties.

“I tried to get him to play on the last album but it never happened,” said Gallagher. “So when I put this track together and knew he would be perfect for it I called him and asked if I could send him the rough mix. He said: ‘No, I don’t want to hear it. I’m just going to react to it on the day.’ He didn’t even want any pointers. Well, that was brave of him. He just arrived with two guitars and a bag of effects pedals. And I have to say, he’s unbelievable. He’s way up there, on another level to the rest of us. The result is a burst of energy that helped make Mighty I one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”

This album follows the huge success of the double platinum eponymous debut album that has sold 770,000 copies to date in the UK alone, and a live schedule that saw Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds visit 32 countries and play 143 shows over a 15 month touring period.

Album track listing:
1. Riverman
2. In The Heat Of The Moment
3. The Girl With X-Ray Eyes
4. Lock All The Doors
5. The Dying Of The Light
6. The Right Stuff
7. While The Song Remains The Same
8. The Mexican
9. You Know We Can’t Go Back
10. Ballad Of The Mighty I

The lyrics on this album are always poignant and on “Magazine” a song about false Gods, it is no different. And, fortunately, for your viewing pleasure, they are provided for you on this lyric video.

James Allan, Glasvegas song-writer, guitarist, vocalist and frontman, says “the song is about the things we believe in, religion and media, idols and Gods and yet what people are looking for is inside themselves already.”

Foxing Announce Fall N. America Tour Dates

He is the face and the inspiration behind Live, and their seminal 1995 album Throwing Copper, and one hell of an entertaining performer, and shortly, we’ll be able to catch him performing the album live acoustically.

Foxing are about to set out on a two and a half month tour that will find them circumnavigating the entire country, including three October dates in Florida.  The Missouri quintet hit the road tonight, and run straight through mid-December.

In October, they tour with Brand New and Cymbals Eat Guitars, including their three stops in Florida (see dates below).  Later on during their tour, they tag-up with Modern Baseball to a run of  co-headlining shows with Gates.

Foxing released a new version of their debut full-length The Albatross via Triple Crown Records this past summer.  Freshly remixed and remastered, this new version of The Albatross takes the swelling, orchestral, starkly personal album to new heights.  Never ones to sit still, the band also created, directed and filmed videos for two of the tracks on the album, including the emotional and powerful ballad “The Medic.”

Producer and mixing engineer Ryan Wasoba explains of the band’s decision to remix and remaster the record, “”By the time we started mixing, most songs had well over 100 tracks. While there was no exact rush to release The Albatross, we did not have the luxury to let the record sit for a few weeks and come back to it with fresh ears. I wasn’t able to listen objectively until after the album was mastered and released.”  Continues bassist Josh Coll, “Because of time, money and other issues that plague recording, we weren’t able to dedicate all the attention to the mix and mastering that it deserved. Once we signed with Triple Crown we’re able to revisit everything. It was a delicate process of cleaning up and bringing out certain qualities in the record that were already there. I think it sounds wonderful.”

Throwing Copper is one of the defining albums of the 1990’s and is absolutely packed with rock music masterpieces. “Stripped back, intimate and disarming, Ed Kowalczyk will appear onstage with a new unplugged production, some of rock’s most profound anthems and the voice that has attracted legions of fans for more than two decades.”
