2018 WTR Lineup Boasts Amazing Depth Across 3 Glorious Days
Before any festival, we typically share 5 Can’t Miss bands from deep into the lineup. Everyone knows the headliners: Foo Fighters, Ozzy, Five Finger Death Punch, A7X, Billy Idol and Stone Sour, but there are so many other great bands playing earlier.
In honor of Welcome to Rockville adding a third day, we decided we needed to add a few bonus bands, to our Can’t Miss Five. Here they are in alphabetical order:
Butcher Babies: River Stage, Saturday at 6:30
Heavy, heavy metal, with two female lead vocalists and a cool theatrical twist. Their music kicks ass but they’ve made even a bigger name with their incendiary live show. This is a can’t miss Welcome to Rockville moment. I’m going to see them instead of Stone Temple Pilots who play at the same time.
Fireball Ministry: Metropolitan Stage, Sunday at 12:15
They have been described as Sabbath partying with Priest and Grand Funk Railroad. That works for me. And, it works for them, they’ve been around for 20 years and have built a great reputation from NY to LA as a smoking live act.
Joyous Wolf: Metropolitan Stage, Saturday at 11:55
Love this band’s name and it fits their sound perfectly. The SoCal quartet offers sweet rock with bluesy roots that provides a wonderful canvas for their sweet sounds. Nick Reese’s gritty vocals perfectly accompany the music.
Red Sun Rising: Metropolitan Stage, Saturday at 1:05
We’ve seen these talented Akron rockers at a few festivals in the past, and they possess a sound perfectly suited for the big stage and huge speakers that grace the grounds at Welcome To Rockville. Their 2015 album Polyester Zeal is one of the best rock albums in the last decade.
The Wild!: River Stage, Saturday at 1:05
Delta blues with a pit of punk snarl. These guys dish out old school guitar rock and seem like they would be an absolute blast to see live. They are one of a steady stream of Canadian bands who seem to have remastered the sound of good old classic American rock ‘n roll.
Them Evils: River Stage, Friday at 2:40
Another new Rockville band that rekindles the dulcet guitar rock that dominated from the 70’s. Their sound is built for a cozy, smoky dive bar and I can’t wait to see how it translates live on the big stage. BTW – anyone else notice that their name is an anagram for Meth Elvis?
Wolf Alice: River Stage, Sunday at 5:10
Ellie Roswell is one of the few female rockers we will see grace the stages of Rockville, and she is blessed with an amazing voice. The UK quartet has only been together a few years, but they are making waves across the rock universe.
Tickets to Welcome to Rockville are selling quickly, but there are still a few available HEREHERE..
