Welcome To Rockville Recommendations
I’ve been to this thunderous celebration of hellacious hard rock for each of the past four years. The festival on the banks of the St. Johns River always features a handful of huge metal bands and five times as many smaller bands on the cusp. There’s definitely something for everyone blaring on one of the Welcome To Rockville stages at any time, but here are five bands that everyone should check out.
This Southern California Alt-punk quartet has been around for three decades, and their impressive catalog is woefully under-appreciated. Lead singer Dexter Holland has one of the most distinctive voices in rock and sounds better than ever these days. They are a bit different than your typical Welcome To Rockville act, but excellent live.

These Canadian rockers actually seem better than ever after a few lineup changes. They traded original singer-guitarist Adam Gonier in for a new duo that includes a better guitarist and a damn good singer. They have a deep catalog of hits and are excellent live.
You take a few ex-members of Creed and pair them with Myles Kennedy, one of the most versatile vocalists in rock, and you get Alter Bridge. They are one of the most entertaining and consistent hard rock bands in the country and they sound just as good live. (Kennedy was here last year, playing with Slash)
It’s pure rock with an old school Southern Rock vibe, except that the band is from Pottsville, PA. Brandon Yeagley is a special talent on vocals and harmonica, and the guitar work in this band is fantastic. This is the only band on this list I have not seen live yet, but their live reputation is great.
I fell in love with this band right here at Metropolitan Park for the 2013 Big Ticket, and have also seen them at a prior Welcome To Rockville. Their live show is incendiary. They sound great, interact with the crowd, fly around the stage and throw in some creative touches. And their music absolutely rocks.
