Mother Love Bone Chloe Dancer

Throwback Thursday SOTD: Mother Love Bone – “Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns”

Mother Love BoneMother Love Bone were the darlings of the Seattle music scene in the late 80’s. The band was primed for superstardom before the untimely death of lead singer Andrew Wood. Our Throwback Thursday Song of the Day is the melancholy earthen movement of “Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns”

The track is actually two songs strung together. “Chloe Dancer” was on 1989’s Shine, and Crown of Thorns was on 1990’s Apple. The two song set was also featured on the critically acclaimed 90’s grunge scene snapshot Singles soundtrack.

Mother Love Bone

It’s an absolutely gorgeous song and showcases a sliver of what the band could have been if Wood had gotten clean. Fortunately Mother Love Bone bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard went on to form Pearl Jam, who will be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame with the class of 2017.

Pearl Jam has come full circle playing “Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns” live a number of times with Vedder taking over lead vocals. To celebrate Andrew Wood, who passed away 27 years ago this March 19th, check out “Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns”.
