RIP Butch Trucks

RIP Butch Trucks, Longtime Allman Brothers Drummer

RIP Butch TrucksI suppose it is ineveitable as our classic rock heroes close in on their 70’s (and 80’s), but it’s never easy losing a rock music legend.  Today the ock universe lost the man who defined Southern Rock drumming.  Butch Trucks was the freight train who powered  Suthern Rock pioneers as one of their original drummers.  He passed away earlier today of unknown causes.

Trucks who was born in Jacksonville, attended FSU and lived in West Palm was a Florida fixture.  Since the most recent Allman Brothers breakup, he’s been touring on his own and actually had a few gigs scheduled in the near future with his band The Freight Train Band.

RIP to a legend.

And take a nice little eleven minute break to relive some of his most magicla work on what I think is the band’s greatest song:

  1. For those of us old enough to remember when Eat a Peach was released – an astonishing 45 years ago – this is truly a sad day. Some of the bonds of friendship forged listening to the AB’s in the 70’s are still alive today. Of course, Butch apparently led a wonderful life so we can rejoice in that. Thanks for the remembrance, RARA’s.
