Kolars is the newish lovechild of two former members of modern folk band He’s My Brother She’s My Sister. Rob and Lauren Kolar have crafted a distinctively creative sound that I’d categorize as Danceabilly. Imagine what would happen when Bleachers collide with Social Distortion – that’s the best way I can describe their sound.
The duo has a big year ahead of them in 2017 and I fully expect to see them breakthrough in a major way. They’ll be touring this Spring, including four dates in Florida where we will catch them at Will’s Pub in Orlando (see all dates below). Kolars also release their much anticipated debut album this April.
I got my first taste of the band with last Spring’s “Beyond the World of Man,” and its superbly animated video. The song is a creative masterpiece and it’s incredibly catchy. As good as the song is the video actually kicks it up a notch. See for yourself here:
Then, a few months ago, I was captivated by the deliciously addictive lo-fi track “One More Thrill.” The video gives us our first glimpse of Lauren’s unique percussive stylings, as we watch her beat the skins perched atop a large bass drum, which she plays by dancing on it. It’s pretty damn cool. Check it out here:
This week, they released their newest single on SoundCloud and it’s an entirely different vibe. “Turn Out the Lights” is a bit darker and slower, spotlighting Rob’s captivating vocals. It’s a track that reminded me of Jesus and Mary Chain, but with a surf vibe. You are probably figuring out by now that Kolars are impossible to pigeonhole. Each of the songs that they’ve released thus far is unique and intriguing. The bottom line: Kolars are creative, unpredictable and absolutely addictive.
