Rock music has long been the genre of epic road trips: top down, wind in your hair, thrashing guitars pumping from the speakers. So, as summer gets closer and more and more of us pack up our trunk and hit the tarmac, having the right music to get you through the journey is essential.

Fortunately, this list compiles five incredible rock road-trip playlists that will provide the perfect soundtrack to your summer. From the classics and the up-and-coming to the karaoke tunes and ultimate anthems, these five road trip radios have it all!

1. All-American Road Trip Playlist – Spotify

Spotify has become the go-to platform for all things playlist lately, and it does not disappoint. This All-American Road Trip Playlist by user trekamerica is the ultimate one stop shop for all your road-tripping needs. With 108 songs and nearly seven hours of music, you can find numerous epic tunes from throughout history that will have you boogying along the highway.

On the list, you’ll find old-school classics from the infectious Blues Brothers release of “Soul Man” to “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, alongside catchy pop-punk anthems, such as Smash Mouth’s legendary “Allstar.” It even has a few interesting tangents from its classic rock feel, such as “Party in the USA” by Miley and Aloe Blacc’s “I Need Dollar,” but these songs on the icing on the cake and make for a fully-rounded listening experience.

Updated regularly with the latest and most popular releases on the channel, it’s a fantastic resource for all the next big hits and the perfect accompaniment to any rock lover’s road trip.

At the time of writing, the playlist includes massive new records from the likes of a Day to Remember, Biffy Clyro and even, emo favorite, Panic! At the Disco. For those who prefer a more mellow sound, it also includes songs from indie all-stars, the Last Shadow Puppets, and alternative group, Metronomy.

4. Roadtrip Anthems – Rhapsody

Everyone knows the key to a successful road trip playlist is to get the whole car singing at the top of their lungs. These kinds of epic karaoke journeys not only cause the time to fly but also make the trip one to remember. Rhapsody has provided a brilliant Roadtrip Anthems playlist that includes so many undeniable classic hits that even the more boring of passengers will be singing along in no time.

5. My 80’s & 90’s Rock Playlist – Vevo

Finally, what better way is there to pass the time on the road than with some throwback nostalgia tunes? For most young adults, the 80’s & 90’s were the heydays of youth, rebellion and a whole future ahead of them. So what better way to kick back, relax and get away from the responsibilities of adult life than to transport yourself back to this era.

Bask in the familiar sounds of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” or “Paradise City” by Guns & Roses, alongside appearances from other great acts, including R.E.M, Oasis, Whitesnake and Aerosmith. You can access this playlist directly on the Vevo app, or via Youtube. Unfortunately, however, Vevo has a similar problem to Netflix when it comes to international streaming, so you might have to install a Virtual Private Network to gain access to this one if you’re road-tripping overseas.
