RARAsFarm was at House Of Blues this week to catch The Mowgli’s, but received a nice bonus when we caught the talented opening act, a relatively new band out of Los Angeles, Phases.

The quartet dished out an entertaining set of electro-pop that had the crowd bouncing along. I spoke with drummer Jason Boesel (Riley Martin, Bright Eyes) after the set and he mentioned that the group had previously existed as JJAMZ, a side project for each of the musicians, before they decided to make it a permanent gig as Phases.

Highlights from their set were the uplifting radio-ready “I’m In Love With My Life,” a catchy dance-driven track; and on the opposite end of the spectrum, “Spark” a tender ballad spotlighting Z Berg’s beautiful voice, under the starlight provided by the audience members’ cell phones.

The crowd was clearly receptive to the band, as noted by Boesel “This is the best crowd we’ve had yet on this tour.” You can catch them playing with The Mowgli’s and Lights through November 22nd, and then they team up with BØRNS to carry them through the year.
